Summer Survival Guide for Healthy Families

Pesky Bug Bites

Everyone loves to get out and enjoy the summer weather, including pesky mosquitos, ticks and fleas. If you plan to be outdoors, bring insect and tick repellent. After you’ve come inside, be sure to check yourself, children and pets for ticks. Ticks are easy to remove with fine-tipped tweezers, but be sure to contact a doctor if you experience a rash, fever or disorientation within a few weeks of the bite. Pack an EpiPen if you’ll be outdoors with someone who is allergic to bee or wasp stings or other common outdoor allergens. Hives can be a first sign of a major allergic reaction in individuals who may not know their allergies.
