Healthy Summer Vacation Tips

Swim Safely

Swimming can be a fun summer activity for the whole family, but swimming safely is important. Whenever children under age 5 are in or around water, an adult should be within arm's length at all times. Never leave children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment. If a child is missing, look for him or her in the pool first. Before you swim, make sure that you are swimming in approved areas of oceans, lakes and rivers. Always check the depth of the water before swimming or diving. Never swim alone and only swim when a lifeguard is present. The National Traffic Safety Institute recommends learning first aid and CPR, especially infant CPR, before swimming with your family.
